I have been writing stories for as long as I can remember. Growing up with a house full of books (my parents were teachers), I was inspired from an early age to believe I could join the ranks of my heroes. But I accept that I probably could not have produced “The Pinocchio Brief”, the first in my Burton & Lamb series of courtroom dramas, without my experience as a lawyer to guide me along the way.
My stories feature the dynamic legal duo of Judith Burton (more experienced, sometimes acid-tongued) criminal barrister and Constance Lamb (younger, determined and more circumspect) solicitor, who defend suspects accused of a variety of serious crimes set in contemporary London.
In every story, quite apart from the challenges of the case itself, there’s a new and topical issue which has to be tackled, whether it’s lie-detecting software or the filming and livestreaming of trials for public consumption. But Judith and Constance take it in their stride, as they must, if they are going to find justice for their clients.
