Amy Myers always wanted to be an author – and to begin ‘tomorrow’. Tomorrow took a long time coming because from university she went straight into a London publishing job where she settled happily for many years, editing military and theatrical memoirs in the non fiction field and fictional ghost stories and historical romances. When she married her American husband James, they organised a commuting marriage between her London office and Paris where he then worked.
It was there that she dreamed up the idea of a half French, half English Victorian master chef, Auguste Didier, who became her first sleuth. He appeared in 11 novels and over the years many of her short stories have appeared in Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine. Auguste’s place was taken by Marsh & Daughter, a contemporary series in which an ex-cop investigates cold cases, usually historical, with his daughter Georgia. Meanwhile a Victorian chimney sweep, Tom Wasp, also took his bow as sleuth, followed by Jack Colby, classic car detective. When he drove off the scene, Nell Drury, 1920s chef in Kent’s Wychbourne Court, stepped in, and currently in today’s world Cara Shelley is running a cafe in the grounds of the weirdly designed but magnificent stately home Tanton Towers – and also running into murder.
Most of her novels are set in rural Kent where Amy lives in a village near the North Downs.
