Robert Murphy is the author of Decoy (HarperCollins 2024) and co-author of the award-winning To Hunt A Killer (HarperCollins 2022).

He also hosts the award-winning true crime podcast Behind The Crimes with Robert Murphy.’

As a correspondent for ITV News, Rob has covered some of the biggest true crime stories of recent years including the Salisbury Poisonings, the Christopher Halliwell Confessions, the Emile Cilliers parachute plot and the murder of Joanna Yeates.

As an investigator, Rob’s inquiries and reporting have included the tasering of a race relations adviser by his own force; his investigation led to the resignation of Wiltshire’s newly-elected Police and Crime Commissioner. He also discovered a ‘lost’ interview with Banksy – a story which was shared globally.

Rob made legal history by successfully obtaining the first ever video-recorded confession made by a killer to a covert officer (R vs Osment 2023.)

His crime podcasts ‘No Strings Attached’ and ‘Catching Melanie’s Killer’ have had more than a million downloads and made the top ten in the Apple Podcast charts – both hitting the top five in the True Crime category.

Rob is particularly interested by cold cases and has reported on the historic murders of Melanie Hall, Shelley Morgan, & Barry Rubery, and directed an extended TV report about the prosecution of one of the country’s oldest cold case rape convictions.

Rob has won the Royal Television Society’s award for West of England reporter of the year.
