She borrowed a typewriter the next day. In 1994 the first of her DI Joanna Piercy novels, Winding up the Serpent, was published by Pan Macmillan, Since then she has had 11 Joanna Piercy novels published. She is currently working on her 12th, working title Guilty Waters, set around Rudyard Lake in Staffordshire, famous for being the inspiration behind Kipling’s unusual middle name.

She has also written 5 novels set in Shropshire featuring Shrewsbury Coroner Martha Gunn and a number of medical standalones which deal with such issues as the blurred line between sanity and insanity, the arrogance of a surgeon and the difficulties face by a female G.P.
