David Leigh

Sub-genre:

David Leigh is an award-winning British journalist working out of Miami, Florida. His new book, The Thief, His Wife and The Canoe, published by Hodder & Stoughton on April 14, is the inspiration for a four-part ITV drama, of the same name, starring Eddie Marsan and Monica Dolan as ‘Canoe Man’ John Darwin and his wife Anne. Actor David Fynn plays the author in the drama written by acclaimed screenwriter Chris Lang (Unforgotten and Innocent). For the new book, Leigh teamed up with retired Detective Superintendent Tony Hutchinson, the officer who led the investigation into Darwin’s miraculous return from the dead nearly six years after he disappeared in the North Sea. Leigh’s last book was Out of My Depth, which he wrote with Anne Darwin. For his reporting on the story he won two prestigious awards, the National Association of News Agencies’ News Story of the Year and the London Press Club’s Scoop of the Year. Before moving to the US, Leigh spent 12 years at the Daily Mirror, working as reporter, News Editor and Foreign Editor, and then three years at the Daily Express as Assistant Editor (News).
