Philip Gwynne Jones was born in South Wales in 1966, and has since lived in Holland, Germany and Scotland. He first came to Italy in 1994, when he spent some time working for the European Space Agency in Frascati, a job that proved to be less exciting than he had imagined.
He spent twenty years in the IT industry before realising he was congenitally unsuited to it, and now works as a writer, teacher and translator. He lives in Venice with his wife Caroline.
He enjoys cooking, art, classical music and opera; and can occasionally be seen and heard singing bass with Cantori Veneziani and the Ensemble Vocale di Venezia.
His first novel, The Venetian Game, was chosen as Waterstones “Thriller of the Month” in March 2018 and spent a month at number 2 in the Times paperback fiction list. The sequel, Vengeance in Venice was chosen as Waterstones “Welsh Book of the Month” in April 2018.
A third Nathan Sutherland / Venetian novel, “The Venetian Masquerade”, will be published in April 2019, with a fourth confirmed for 2020.
