Sub-genre: gangster, noir, True Crime
My latest book is The Real Ted Hastings, which looks at the real police corruption scandals that inspire the BBC hit drama Line of Duty. This was published by Mardle Books in May 2023.
This made it a busy 12 months for me, as Murder by the Sea, a companion book featuring cases from the CBS Reality series of that name, was published by Mardle in July last year.
I have just launched a Substack newsletter that features weekly articles on true-crime cases and various research and interviews I’ve been doing. This can be found at personsunknown.net
Finally, I’m the author of true-crime book The Hunt for the 60s’ Ripper. This is a re-investigation of the case of a little-known serial killer in west London during the Swinging Sixties. For this I talked to several former detectives and profilers to explore what might have gone wrong in the original investigation, and why the killer escaped justice.
The book led to a BBC4 documentary, Dark Son: The Hunt for a Serial Killer. I was interviewed for that programme and have since been a regular contributor to TV series such as Murder by the Sea and other documentaries.
When it comes to fiction, I have contributed short stories to one or two anthologies, such as Action: Pulse Pounding Tales.
