John Harkin was born and raised in Glasgow where he still resides with his wife. They have an adult son.
He’s a former shipbuilder, police officer and business consultant.
As a former police commander and hostage negotiator, his debut novel draws upon his police experience. Serving in uniform, CID, and firearms teams, and with experience of policing armed sieges and major incidents, John can tap into a rich seam of material for writing crime fiction.
Away from writing, his other passions are reading, music and football. He is a season ticket holder at Celtic FC.
John’s debut crime thriller novel, The Fear Of Falling, was published by Bloodhound Books in January 2022. John appeared at the 2022 iteration of Bloody Scotland, Stirling’s annual Crime Fiction festival, as part of their Crime in the Spotlight feature.
The Fear of Falling was released as an Audiobook in August 2023. His second book, A Fear Of Dark Places was published by Bloodhound on 2 June 2023.
