Karen Haden was born and raised in Portsmouth, but now lives in South West England with her husband and family. She graduated in engineering, and had a successful career as a consultant for government clients. Whilst volunteering as a prison chaplain, she also studied theology
Using these experiences, Karen writes historical crime/thriller novels, encompassing politics, espionage and spirituality, from the perspective of ordinary people rather than royalty and nobles at court.
Her debut novel Paying in Blood, set during the succession from Tudor Queen Elizabeth to Scottish King James, was published by Sharpe Books in March 2024. It will be followed by two further mystery/thrillers featuring Alexander Baxby.
