Kate Griffin

Sub-genre: ,

Kate Griffin is the author of Kitty Peck and the Music Hall Murders published in July 2013 by Faber and Faber. The first 6,000 words of the novel won Stylist Magazine’s competition to find a new crime writer, run in conjunction with Faber. The key stipulation for entries was that the draft should feature a strong, female protagonist.

Kitty Peck and the Music Hall Murders was shortlisted for the CWA Endeavour Historical Dagger in 2014.

There are now three books in the series, Kitty Peck and the Child of Ill Fortune, published in 2015, and Kitty Peck and the Daughter of Sorrow, published in 2017.

Born in London, Kate studied English Literature at university. She trained to be a teacher, but then became a journalist for over a decade. She now works as communications manager for Britain’s oldest heritage charity, the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (known affectionately as SPAB). Her work often gives her a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes at some of the country’s most ancient and interesting buildings, including the wonderful Wiltons Music Hall in the East End, a prime source of inspiration. She also worked as press officer at the extraordinary, evocative Sir John Soane’s Museum in Lincoln’s Inn Fields

Set in the sleazy, fog-bound backstreets of London’s docklands during the Victorian era, the Kitty Peck series features a crime-busting music hall trapeze artist and her unusual colleagues – kate is writing a sequel now. She is married to journalist Stephen, and they live in St Albans.
