Sub-genre: Amateur detective, Historical, mystery, Procedural
I am a Hungarian-British crime writer and literary translator resident in Shrewsbury.
I write upmarket literary crime fiction with a strong sense of place and historical background. My aim is to give voice to the silenced ‘herstory’ of women during state socialism. So far, I have published a stand alone and three volumes of my crime series to glowing reviews in Hungary.
The main concept of the HAND-series is that while the crime happens in a contemporary Hungarian setting from 2015 on, the investigation leads back to a certain historical period of communism and state socialism between 1948 and the early 1990s. Each volume takes on a different subgenre (serial killer, closed circle mystery and train mystery, respectively) and explores some lesser known part of the history of Central-East Europe (the arrival of Greek refugee children to socialist countries in 1948-1949, the abortion politics in the region and the secret life of illegal female orders during the oppression of the Catholic Church).
Apart from writing I do literary translation, editing and projectmanagement in the field of publishing. I teach creative writing and run my own workshops.
