Helen Cooper is a writer of psychological thrillers from Derby.
She has a background in teaching and was Head of Learning Enhancement at the University of Birmingham. Her short fiction has been published in Writers’ Forum, Mslexia, Woman, the Lincolnshire Echo and Derbyshire Life. She was shortlisted for the Bath Short Story Award in 2014 and came third in the Leicester Writes Short Story Prize in 2018.
Her first novel, The Downstairs Neighbour, is published by Hodder & Stoughton in the UK and Putnam in the US. It’s the story of three families sharing a converted London townhouse, whose lives drastically unravel when the teenage girl from the top floor flat disappears. It was a Sunday Times Crime Club pick, a Woman & Home book club choice, and one of Hello magazine’s ‘most anticipated reads of 2021.’ Her second novel, The Other Guest, will be published on 16th June 2022. Set in a stunning but sinister resort on the shores of Lake Garda, it follows two women as they try to uncover the truth about a mysterious drowning.
Helen has also co-authored two books on academic writing for university students.
