CHRIS BERRY

Chris released his first crime thriller Tough Season, reviewed as a racy, pacy, gripping, action-packed debut, in July 2019 through publisher Great Northern Books. It is the first crime novel to feature the sport of rugby league as its canvas in a similar way to Dick and Felix Francis’ books set in the world of horse racing.

‘My favourite crime fiction writers are Dick and Felix Francis, Peter May, John Grisham and Ann Cleeves,’ says Chris. ‘I enjoy an easy, fast-paced book and Tough Season has been a joy to write. I absolutely love developing characters, seeing them breathe (and in some cases eventually not breathing) and take on a persona I hadn’t even thought about them taking on at first. Tough Season in the Sun, the sequel, will be released in July 2020.’

Chris was born and grew up in Hull before moving to a village near Leeds after moving from the Hull Daily Mail to the Yorkshire Post. He has written for the Yorkshire Post for over 20 years specialising in countryside and rural matters. He has also written several autobiographies for big name acts including Tony Christie, released October 2019 and Joe Longthorne.

Music and sport play a large part in his life. He’s a performer either with his The Chris Berry Band or as a solo act with just his guitar and voice and has supported several leading names on tour around the UK. He’s a singer/songwriter and in 2018 released a critically acclaimed album Long Hard Road. His home town (or home city to be more accurate) rugby league club is Hull Kingston Rovers. Chris has played many sports and currently runs 5K, 10K, 10 mile and half marathon distances.

‘I’ve had experience in many different disciplines whether newspapers, radio, television, sport, farming, music, drama or the countryside. So who knows where my future novels will be set. What I can tell you is that I intend to have fun bringing more great characters to life on the page!’
