Paul Beatty writes historical crime stories set in the northwest of England in the 1840’s.

His protagonist is Constable Josiah Ainscough, a Methodist, who has a deductive mind and upright principles, which sometimes give him problems in matters of the heart. Two volumes of the series have been published. Children of Fire which concerned an investigation into a murder in around the eponymous independent religious settlement and Circles of Deceit recently been published by The Conrad Press. Circles of Deceit concerns the broader setting of the General Strike of 1842. It touches on Chartism and the trade Unions of the time.

He writes an occasional series of articles for The Writing Magazine on things such as how to run a Blog Tour, build a Podcast and other technical activities of interest to Indy authors. He has a podcast called Viaduct.

He has a background in the NHS and University as a medical engineer and scientist specialising in Intensive care environments and the use of artificial intelligence in such environments.
