Writes the Tom Fox spy thrillers for Penguin as Jack Grimwood; weird shit, including the Ashraf Bey mysteries, as Jon Courtenay Grimwood; and literary fiction for Canongate as Jonathan Grimwood.
Currently researching memoir and memory at St Andrews for a PhD.
Born in Valetta and christened in the upturned bell of a ship, he grew up in Malta, the Far East, Britain and Scandinavia. Apart from novels he sometimes writes and reviews for magazines and newspapers; including The Times, The Telegraph, The Independent and The Guardian, among others.
He is married to the broadcaster and novelist Sam Baker. They share their flat in Edinburgh with a drug addicted street cat.
