Deborah Young

American writer and film critic Deborah Young is the author of the Caribbean adventure thriller Pirates in Black Tie, her first novel, published by Europe Books in 2021. She is the editor and chief critic of The Film Verdict, the leading digital platform for international film reviews.
Deborah was born in St. Louis, Missouri and graduated from Wellesley College. She received an M.A. in Cinema Studies from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Italian cinema brought her to Italy, where she has worked as a journalist and film critic. She was the Rome bureau chief of Variety and subsequently international film editor of The Hollywood Reporter. She lives in Rome.
