I’m Chris Longmuir and I’m an award-winning novelist. Two of my books in the Dundee Crime Series won major awards. The most prestigious award was for Dead Wood, which won the Dundee International Book Prize, so I’m very proud of this book.
Since then I’ve published the Dundee Crime Series, the Kirsty Campbell Mysteries, the first book in a new Suffragette Mystery Series, a historical saga and two non-fiction books.
Readers have described my crime thrillers as scary and atmospheric page-turners. However, my historical novels are a mite less scary, although still full of suspense. I’ve also published two non-fiction books. One of them is a reader’s guide to eBooks, and the other is a how to do it guide for self-publishing, which has been helpful for a lot of writers.
I live in a seaside town in the county of Angus in Scotland. It’s midway between Aberdeen and Dundee and I used the area for background in my historical saga, A Salt Splashed Cradle. Local people queue up to buy this one.
I’m an Open University graduate with a postgraduate qualification in Social Work plus a qualification in criminology. I had a successful social work career and climbed the ladder, but it is a time-consuming career and I retired early to concentrate on my writing, which gives me far more pleasure.
To begin with, a major Scottish publisher published my books the traditional way, but a few years ago I set up my publishing business and I now publish independently, which I find much more satisfying.
Before I finish, I must confess my guilty secret. Whisper it quietly, I’m a techno-geek and I build my own computers.
