Katherine Stansfield is a novelist and poet who grew up in Cornwall and now lives in Cardiff. Her latest novel is the historical murder mystery The Mermaid’s Call, third in the Cornish Mysteries series published by Allison & Busby – think X Files meet Sherlock Holmes meets Daphne du Maurier.
She is also one half of the partnership D. K. Fields, co-writing the gaslamp fantasy crime trilogy The Tales of Fenest which is published by Ad Astra / Head of Zeus.
Katherine co-edited, with Caroline Oakley, Cast a Long Shadow, an anthology of crime short fiction by women writers from Wales.
She is a member of Crime Cymru, the Welsh crime writers’ collective, and was part of the team that devised and ran the Gwobr Nofel Gyntaf Crime Cymru First Novel Prize: a new prize for debut crime writers in Wales.
Katherine’s work has won the Holyer an Gof Fiction Prize twice, and she was shortlisted for the Winston Graham Memorial Prize. She is the Royal Literary Fund Fellow at Cardiff University, where she also teaches writing crime fiction courses for the university’s School of Continuing and Professional Education. She is an Associate Lecturer for the Open University’s new MA in Creative Writing, a Writing Fellow at the University of South Wales, and a mentor for Literature Wales.
