Ian Skewis

Ian Skewis is an author and editor.
He was born in Scotland in 1970. At the age of 19 he wrote articles for a local paper and had his first poems published before going on to train at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He became an actor, appearing on film and television, and providing his voice for radio. He performed in numerous stage plays that toured internationally, including Like Thunder, which received a Fringe First Award in 2001. He retired from acting in 2004.
In 2013 he returned to the arts and had several short stories published, including a Doctor Who story, Borrowed Time, which was a finalist in the international Temporal Logbook competition and Inkling, which was published in an anthology entitled The Speculative Book.
In 2017, his debut novel, A Murder Of Crows, became a multiple No.1 Bestseller on various Amazon Kindle charts. It was also longlisted for the Guardian’s Not The Booker Prize. Since then it has also been released as a paperback and the audiobook, which Ian narrated, went on to win the Gold Acorn Award for Best Audiobook of 2018.
He has appeared at numerous festivals, as author and host, including Bloody Scotland, Aye Write! and Newcastle Noir, and he has performed many times at Noir at the Bar, in Edinburgh, Newcastle and Harrogate.
He is a trained member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) and has proofread and edited numerous novels for Bloodhound Books and debut authors. He provides this service via his website.
He publishes a free monthly newsletter, which can be subscribed to via his website, ianskewis.com.
He lives and works in Glasgow.
