Historical Murder Talk with Marianne Howell

Local Historian and chair of the Lancashire Local History Federation, Marianne Howell, will be visiting Wigan Library to do a talk on the infamous Button Pit Murder that took place in the 19th Century. It is a story of how a family man’s ordinary night at work turned into a crime that shocked the community. The national press of the time described the murder of Pit worker James Barton as a ‘murder most gross, foul and unnatural’. Book your place to find out
